My elderly parent is being pressured by a relative to sign an LPA naming that relative — what can I do?

Call us, and contact the Office of the Public Guardian's safeguarding team. The whole purpose of the Certificate Provider role is to prevent exactly this. A genuinely independent CP — not a friend of the pressuring relative — should refuse to sign if there are signs of pressure. If an LPA has already been registered, you can report concerns about an attorney's conduct to the OPG, who can investigate and ultimately apply to the Court of Protection to remove the attorney. Document everything: dates, conversations, evidence of pressure. Speak to a qualified planner or solicitor before confronting the relative.
